Free Project Management Templates from BERR

Today, as I was doing a feasibility study for a business idea I have, I came across some project management templates in WORD format from the (British) Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR). I think this set of templates is very practical for small business owners, consultants, and also looks like a great tool for use on smaller* projects. You can download these templates here.

* For larger projects that have multimillion dollar budgets and larger scopes, a dynamic tool like @task would be more practical to avoid from volumes and volumes of manual documentation.

Project Management: More Templates on OnProjects.net

This is a short but useful post while I am busy working on a major piece. I wanted to share more documentation and project management templates with project managers and folks who have real businesses to run from OnProjects.net. There’s a wealth of project management templates  and project toolkits from Cornell University, The Tasmanian Government, and even some more Prince2 templates thanks to the blogger called Duardo. Let me know what you think!

Product Development Process: SCRUM

Here is a “Google Tech Talks” video recording of Ken Schwaber discussing the basic framework of Scrum and its implementation issues. Ken co-developed the Agile process Scrum, so this is an especially valuable 60-minute seminar recording for traditional project managers looking to get certified as a ScrumMaster, or for those needing a primer to understand just what Scrum means.

Communicating Design by Dan Brown

About two weeks ago, my colleague Lisa handed me a book to read as a guide while I was preparing a user test plan. Thought I’d share that it is a good read for those whose job description include documenting and communicating design. It is great if you’re looking to have a solid foundation on IA principles and introductory techniques on the preparation of wireframes, site maps, and user journeys but might be leaning on the conceptual if you’re looking for time-effective solutions. Nevertheless, still very useful to have on your shelf.

Documentation: Prince2 Templates

If your job requires professional project management documentation done, you will find these document templates from Prince2.com a very useful set to start with and a lifesaver in times of frantic chaos. I realize sharing this means I’m opening up more opportunities for newbs to take away more job choices from me (and competition to thrive), but it is such a delightful thing to know that I’ve reached a point in my profession that I am able to share these without needing to worry about its implications. Download, enjoy, and let me know how you like them.
